Do women really know what they want? In Kate Chopin’s literary novel, The Awakening, Ms. Edna Pontellier, the protagonist of the novel, embarks on a path of sexual, intellectual, and sexual realization at the conclusion of her summer with her young admirer. Edna becomes rebellious and tries to show off that she is independent-minded. Edna moves out of her husband’s house, has an affair, and becomes an artist. Edna feels shackled, because all of her expectations have been cut-off. Through out the novel Edna thinks of herself as an autonomous human being and rebels against social normalities of relationships. Edna’s character is clearly the opposite then that of the persona in “Baby” by Ashanti.
In given time in a young lady’s life, there will come a time where they will fall in love with another human being. Most of the time your emotions are attracted to the “right one”, but it does not always work out this way. E...
