The Australian Banking Market

The Australian banking market tends to be competitive, but The Australian Competition and Consumer Commission headed by Alan Fields keeps a close watch on the operations of the Commonwealth bank, National bank, Westpac and ANZ, as there interest and bank fees seem to rise at the same time.
With new changes in the bank fees as Westpac increase there Visa fees by 40% which follows increases by the Commonwealth, ANZ and the NAB who increased there fees last year.

Mr Don Angus who is the chairman of NAB says "the National Australian Bank does not compete solely with other banks. We compete with credit unions, building societies, mortgage originators, life offices and telecommunications companies etc".
