The American Dream Patrick Hotchkiss Professor Marconi English 001 14 November 2003 The American Dream In America we are privileged to have both opportunity and freedom. With this opportunity and freedom together with a capitalist society creates consumerism. As a consumer based society we have corporations and industry that provide our need for not only necessities but luxuries as well. The middle class makes up the majority of consumers and the majority of America. One corporation in particular is Nike. Nike has been around for years and has become a household name in America. It is well respected by many, while others look beyond the walls of American society and see the truth behind Nike and other such corporations that exploit third world countries for cheap labor. It is modern day imperialism at its best. Middle class America is in a bind figuring out whether to support the company they love or take the other side in the fight to end sweatshops.
