Television Sitcoms

In the United States, the Situation Comedy has made a huge mark on the entertainment industry in the past fifty years. For only a few television seasons has the sitcom not dominated the network ratings (Hamamoto 1). They are usually based on realistic themes and families most people could relate to. Sitcoms seem to create a feeling of comfort and familiarity in the home, and it usually doesn’t reach the psychological or political extreme that other comic genres do (Marc 22). Many shows changed the face of television, but none as much as I Love Lucy did. She changed how television comedy is portrayed and reruns and syndication’s were made possible (Krutnick 78). Television comedy changed so many aspects of television and the most popular is without a doubt Situation Comedies.
