Cheryl Wetzstein points out “the teen pregnancy rate is 19 percent lower than the teen-pregnancy rate in 1991, when the rate peaked at 116.5 pregnancies per 1,000 teens” (33). Many believe that abstinence education should be credited for this decline. Others argue that the major reason for the decline in the teen-pregnancy rate is the increased use of contraception. In relation to the sources I have read, I have concluded that the reason for the decline in the teen pregnancy rate should be credited to the increased use of contraception. I also believe that contraception is too convenient for males or females not too use. Jennifer Manlove, a researcher with Child Trends Inc., identifies that “the teen-pregnancy rates may continue to [decline] since abortion rates have been declining and teen birthrates fell in both 1998 and 1999”(qtd.in Wetzstein 33)
