The introduction of web-based learning in some of the subjects studied by distance education at the University of Western Sydney, Hawkesbury, has profoundly changed the learning process, creating both new opportunities and problems. This report outlines some of the issues from a student perspective and how web-based learning can relate to future learning in professional practice.

Distance education (or learning as an external student) provides the opportunity for many students to gain qualifications whilst still working full time or living in remote areas or where physical constraints or family commitments prevent attendance at a University.
