Tea

Sinclair Ross’s short story "The Painted Door" tells the life of Ann and John, who do not have a very healthy relationship. John, a simple farmer thinks the only way he can please his wife is by farming to give her the life she wants, Ann, would prefer him to spend more time with her. With the unhealthy marriage the two shares over the years Ann becomes isolated and hostile. At the end of the story the reader is left wondering is the wife in “The Painted Door” a sympathetic character.
As the story begins, Ann feels isolated and lonely as John prepares to leave her to go visit his father.
