Synthesis

When the announcement in February 1997, that a team of Scottish scientists had cloned an adult sheep was made, there were many different views expressed regarding cloning humans. Though in disagreement on whether cloning should be allowed, there were two writers, Daniel J. Kevles and Ellen Goodman, that shared three similar views in common. The first is that the possibility exists that humans can be cloned. Also, both state that there are ethical dilemmas related to cloning. And each believes that cloning people would not work, as people are a product of their environment.
Though Dolly is only a sheep, the prospects of human cloning seem to loom large. In his article, Kevles states that the birth of Dolly “… marks a milestone in our ability to engineer animals … It also signals that humans can, in principal, be cloned too.”(132).
