Symbols – the Phoenix

The phoenix was in ancient times a mythical bird of great beauty, with scarlet and gold plumage, a multicoloured tail, a golden neck and a beautiful, melodious cry. Only one phoenix was said to have existed at a time. Many claimed the phoenix came from Ethiopia. Stories of the phoenix almost always were in connection with sun, fire, stars, music, or eternity.
It was believed that the phoenix would live for approximately 500 years. When the phoenix was soon to die, it would build a nest of twigs, branches and spices. When it was time for the phoenix to die it would burn the nest from the heat of it...
