Symbolism in the South

Throughout the course of human history there have always been different types of interests, studies, and views on scholarly topics. Whether it is writing stories, short stories, poems, or plays, authors share their thoughts and interests through their writing. In their writing there are often many uses of literary devices and examples of symbolism that is apparently obvious to them, but not necessarily obvious to the reader. Often time’s authors use symbolism as a way to represent the qualities of the characters, places, and events in their works. William Faulkner’s short story “A Rose for Emily” uses symbolism to compare the Grierson house with Emily Grierson's change in social society and physical decline.
