Russia: from Stalin to Khrushchev


It is widely known that Nikita Khrushchev gained world fame as the Soviet leader who broke with Stalin’s rigid interpretation of communism after his death in 1953. From that point, this essay will try to explain the changes that occurred with the swap from Stalin to Khrushchev, including the Soviet stance towards the west throughout this period.
Let’s start by saying that there is a big gap between these two men’s personalities and leadership. On the one hand there’s Stalin, a strict man whose orders had to be followed, or else, the penalties for whomever was responsible person were ruthless; in other words, he was a dictator. His rigid personality echoed in every act he carried out during his government, he established a central planning system, an economic development based on the heavy industry, and a foreign policy that sought control over the Eastern European nations against the infiltrations of the West (especially of the U.S.A a...
