Summary of “I’m Dreaming of Rocket Richard”

The “Curette” was an only child with a frugal mother, who was raised in a convent, and a father who was a drunken gambler. While money was scarce, it wasn’t the poverty that made life unhappy for “Curette”, but rather his parents. He despised his parents, especially his father, for many reasons not the least of which was for making him an only child so that he would have to endure his childhood alone. The “Curette“, unlike his father, was industrious. He worked hard at delivering papers and building his ice rink to prove to himself that he was not like his father and to keep him away from home as much as possible.
As time passed in the “Curette’s” young life, he began to realize that good things seem to come to the English speaking people as opposed to the French. His French paper route moved further out as the Greeks and Jews moved in and the English paper became predominant.
