Chapter 29
Huck realizes, when compared to the king and duke, the new brothers appear to be English. The older brother says he is Harvey and he and his brother can prove their identity when their baggage arrives. The king tells the crowd this is not surprising since they cannot immediately prove themselves. They believe the king and duke until the doctor persuades them to look further into their claim. An ironic plot development reveals Huck’s growth process when he is interrogated by the doctor and the town’s lawyer, who conclude that he is not English and not used to lying. Of course, Huck is used to telling tales, but his limitations are revealed by these two intelligent men, so he remains quiet and watches the investigation proceed.
