Friends or Not Friends?

In Toni Morrison’s novel Sula, the two main characters are Sula Peace and Nel Wright. These two characters started off as being friends, but through a series of events lose sight of their friendship for a long time. Critics describe the book as “a rare friendship between women” (87). Where as, other critics believe it is more than friendship. “ Toni Morrison’s books are filled with loss- loss friendship, lost love, lost customs, lost possibilities”, says Margo Jefferson. Eva, Hannah, Shadrack, Jude, and Ajax are other characters that made the story unfold.
