Suicide

I chose to do my enrichment on suicide. Very recently one of my friends killed themselves. I wanted to learn more about suicide. I was shocked when I looked up it’s statistics. They were much higher than I had guessed. I researched the causes, although it depends on the person. I also looked at the affects that suicide has to all the people around them who loved and cared for the person. I know first hand what it’s like to have a friend kill themselves, and it’s a very hard process.
The statistics for the United States were much higher than I thought. It makes me stop and think about what our world is coming to. It’s the 9th leading cause of death in the US, and more people commit suicide than homicide. Out of every 100,000 people, 11.3 kill themselves. The statistics show that men take their own life four times more than women. For people under 25, firearms was the most common method. The second most common was hanging, followed by poisoning.
