Smoking is an addiction that has many effects. It does not just cause diseases like emphysema and lung cancer, it also causes emotional and monetary problems. Some of the physical affects of smoking are increased heart rate, blood pressure, and breathing rate. It also makes the smoker feel more alert, but the feeling only lasts for 20 minutes, so the craving returns. Other physical affects of smoking are it stains teeth, reduces the efficiency of the body’s ability to taste and smell, and increases the process of wrinkling of the skin (especially around the eyes). Some of the emotional effects of smoking are that the carbon monoxide in cigarettes makes you feel dull the way you would in a stuffy room without enough air, and the chemicals seem to dampen some people's feelings of tension, anger or strong emotion.
