Explication of Romance by Edgar Allen Poe
The first line of “Romance” tells the reader what the basic theme of the poem is. The author personifies romance as a somewhat mischievous character from the very beginning the poem by describing it as nodding and singing. By saying “ With drowsy head and folded wing,” The author is saying that romance has a lethargic, mellow way of accomplishing its goals. The next two lines elaborate on the metaphor of romance as a bird. The next line after these tell the reader that Romance is no stranger to the author.
