Studying Adrienne Rich as a Case in Point

“Revision--the act of looking back, of seeing with fresh eyes, of entering an old text from a new critical direction--”(Rich 629) Re-vision is a way to take a new look and approach something from a different angle in order to maybe revise your thinking and understanding of a particular point. Adrienne Rich did this throughout her writing as a way of progression of her skill and of her beliefs. Bringing three examples into the light; Aunt Jennifer's Tigers, Snapshots of a Daughter-in-Law, and “Planetarium”, show the progression of the way Rich felt about herself and women in general at the times of each of the writing.
Aunt Jennifer's Tigers is a poem about a woman who is knitting as an escape from the tribulations of life and as an expression of herself. At the time this poem is set, women were not viewed as writers, so in order for Aunt Jennifer to feel her accomplishments will live on, she knits pieces that will hopefully live on long after her death.
