Structure and Content

Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. on August 28, 1963, gave a very powerful speech. It was not only intended for the black community but also for the white. In his speech he speaks about his wish for the future. Dr. King’s speech consists of repeated patterns, figurative language, imagery, diction and tone, known as structure. There are also themes and ideas, which is the content.
The structure of Dr. King’s “I Have A Dream” speech consists of repeated patterns. In the essay, he emphasizes the fact that 100 years after Abraham Lincoln’s Emancipation Proclamation, the Negro is still not free and that “now” is the time to fix injustice.
