Strategic Management Perspective

Formulating policies is an essential element in the strategic process. However, attending to the implementation of those policies is also a crucial part of strategy. This case focuses upon the implementation of care in the community in a fictional authority.
The 1980s have seen the emergence of strategic legislation with bold aims & few specified provisions. The NHS & community care act 1990 is an example of such ‘Strategic or Enabling Legislation’. Few of its sections provide detailed guidance on how local health authorities will actually operate to implement community care plans. However a major strand of the mission of this government has been to move the Local Health Authority away from its role as a direct provider of services.
