STOLEN

Stolen’s message is not one of hope of Reconciliation because it shows that trauma and suffering can never be forgotten. Discuss.

Stolen’s message is that it is too late for reconciliation as the trauma and suffering experienced can never be forgotten. The Stolen Generation, including both parents and children, have experienced events in their lives which will be damaging both now and in the future them and future generations. The long term pain experienced by the Stolen Generation as children and as adults resulted in them being unable to fit into society as they are constantly haunted and reminded of the trauma they experienced. Hope of reconciliation is seen as pointless to this generation as they have been scarred with unforgettable events which can never be forgotten. Reconciliation is explored as a white belief which, although seems to have good intentions, disrespects the aboriginal community.
