Steroids
What are steroids? Steroids are synthetic chemicals that mimic the hormones produced by the body. Steroids are mostly used by bodybuilders and athletes. The continuous stress and pressure to perform well has caused some athletes to surrender and take steroids as an easy way to get stronger, bigger, and faster. Athletes use steroids for all of the positive reasons but what they don’t know is they are really affecting their health.
Steroids were first produced by chemical methods from the male hormone testosterone. Artificial steroids were first developed for medical purposes during World War II by the German army. The Germans gave it to their soldiers to make them more aggressive in combat. After the war, doctors in Europe and the United States used steroids to treat anemia, malnutrition, and to help patients recover faster from surgery.
