Stereotyping in Star Wars

Stereotypes have been present in our society forever. They have always been here and will never go away. Stereotypes are seen in books, magazines, newspapers, television, and movies. Stereotyping is usually most abundant in movies however. Often times members of the audience become very offended with the stereotypes in movies. The recent movie Star Wars Episode I: The Phantom Menace was highly criticized for the numerous occurrences of racial stereotyping within the movie. Three different instances of stereotyping are seen in The Phantom Menace within three of the main characters.
The Neimoidians offer the first glimpse of stereotyping within Star Wars. They portray an Asian stereotype that has been seen several times in movies before, but they are not exactly Asian.
