There are two very distinct groups in Mica Area High School; there are the

students and Stargirl. To support the decisions on the MAHS students to think

Stargirl is strange as well as Stargirl’s uniqueness, Spinelli needed to make each

sound slightly strange and un-pleasant. However, it is more important that Stargirl

seems strange to us. He did this by pointing out the slightly less pleasant qualities

of each in dialogue, actions and appearance relating to the specific characters.
