Breaking the Standard



Today’s society is all about choices. Everything rests on the shoulders of circumstance. If the future’s highest paid CEO makes one wrong step, he or she could potentially become the future’s lowest paid fry-cook. Every person on this Earth has a different way of thinking and living, yet there is a standard for evaluating anyone’s intelligence; thereby determining a large portion of their fate. These basic standards are losing relevance fast in the modern world. Standardized tests are an obsolete and ineffective way of judging in education.

It is true that standardized testing has become a fundamental root of education. Thousands of colleges all over America use the ACTs and SATs as forms of evaluation of entry. However, this does not mean that the tests are necessarily working. It only shows the fact that these institutions cling to an already developed idea because they have no other established alternatives.
