Stalin Defense

Throughout Russian history, both Russian czars and princes were commonly known to use autocratic rule. At first glance, the methods used by many of these autocrats may seem to be cruel and tyrannical, but they usually are the only possible methods, and have good effects on the country. Stalin, who ruled Soviet Russia from 1929 to 1953, many times was called a tyrant, a killer, and a monster. Nevertheless, he raised Russia from a crumbling nation to a great superpower. As soon as Stalin assumed control of the Soviet Union, he immediately began working to improve the industry, agriculture, bureaucracy, and military.
Stalin believed that the Soviet Union was at least one hundred years behind the Western World. Before he came to power, Russia was a mostly a backwards nation, subordinate to most other industrialized nations. By 1937, after a decade of totalitarian rule, Stalin increased Soviet industry to a point where it was only surpassed by the United States. This was a remarkable achie...
