The Nissan 300zx is a Sports Car
In the early 1980’s, the world’s trend toward car styles was changing. No longer was it “cool” to own a big car with a big engine (8,12 or even 16 cylinder), but instead a smaller 4 or 6-cylinder engine that was turbocharged to produce superior power. At this time, America’s best sports car was the Pontiac Firebird Turbo Trans Am. It produced 205 horsepower, with 8 cylinders and was considered the greatest sports car of its time. (Stone, 108) Japans answer to this challenge was the 300zx. The Japanese engineers took a 6-cylinder engine, added a twin turbo system and came out with an incredible 200 raw horsepower. (Stone, 97) The 300zx defines the very essence of sports cars with it’s aerodynamically shaped body, steering, suspension and wheels designed for precise control at high speeds, and an engine that is capable of great power.
