1. There were three major events which took place in the Bronx which led to the birth of the hip-hop culture.
A. First, in 1959 Parks Commissioner Robert Moses began building an expressway through the heart of the Bronx
1. As a result, the Italian, German, Irish, and Jewish neighborhoods disappeared overnight.
2. These leaving middle classes and businesses were replaced by poor black and Hispanic families. With these poor people brought in crime, drug addiction, and unemployment.
B. The second major event was under the direction of Parks Commissioner Robert Moses again, he built an apartment complex on the northern edge of the Bronx for the rest of the middle class people in the Bronx
1. As a result of the new apartment complex, landlords began selling out to professional slumlords.
2. As a consequence of this action the Bronx was made into a neighborhood with many un-kept and vacant buildings.
