SPEECH: Mars Exploration (2003)

“One small step for man, one giant leap for mankind,” in 1969 Neil Armstrong, uttering that immortal phrase and stepping onto lunar soil, made history by becoming the first man to walk on the moon. Yet, despite all the excitement in recent decades over space stations, exploding
galaxies, and men on the moon, it still seems nothing in outer space fires our imaginations like The Red Planet. Mars... the forth planet from the Sun, named by the Romans in honor of their god of war, seems to be the best candidate for our next space exploration, since not only is it closest in terms of distance, but it is also the closest in terms of being earth-like. As a science fiction enthusiast the thought of landing a human on Mars gives me a giddy feeling as if I were a child again. Before we can land men on Mars however, NASA has to investigate the climate, geology, and wether or not life ever existed there.
