Observation was done on two occasions, two double periods. The room was beautifully decorated with pictures and other items depicting Multiculturalism. Books of different ethnic groups were visible. The student population consisted of students of Latino and African American descent.
The class was arranged in four groups of four or five students each. The teacher wrote a list of the five W's (who, what, when, where and why), with there definitions on the chalkboard. Then she gave sample questions for each word. Next, she explained that they would read part of a story, from their Signature's book. The five W's would be used to ask questions about the story.
