Speaking In Tongues

Christians, in pursuit of holiness, face many issues that depend on interpretation of the Holy Scriptures. One of those issues is speaking in tongues; specifically whether the gift is useful or if it even exists today. People have even gone, as far as to say that speaking in tongues is similar to the conflicting views of the Law in the New Testament in which people have said that if you don’t speak in tongues, your salvation is lost. Of course this is not true. Speaking in tongues is a spiritual gift that can be used to edify the church as well as the person that has been given the gift.
The definition of the gift of tongues according to the American Heritage Dictionary is, “the ability or phenomenon to utter words or sounds of a language unknown to the speaker especially as an expression of religious ecstasy.” Harper Collins echoes this definition in his Bible Dictionary as he says that the gift of tongues is “a spontaneous utterance of sound...
