Speaker's Roles when conducting meetings

How Andrew Young once said at a management conference in Atlanta, “I see you and your role in our world as much more important than you do…Meetings are important;…meetings are where ideas are formed;…meetings are where vision is shared; meetings are where people come together; and that is no simple task.” (McNeill, Kirck.) Managers can host meetings for a variety of different reasons, but these reasons can be categorized into task focused reasons, as well as social reasons. Amongst the task focused reasons for meeting are to move group actions forward, present information to others, and collaborate together to create a collective review, evaluation, discussion and problem solving process. Social reasons can be the need for the constituents to belong, the need for employees to achieve and make an impact in the organization, the desire to communicate, build and share a reality with their co-workers.
