Spartan economy

The Spartan economic structure and organisation was one of the most superior of its time, with few problems. Many their social and economic reforms were though to be attributed by Lycurgus enforced by the government, but natural resources formed the basis of Spartan economy. The Spartan economy had no use for coinage. The objective and resources were designed to was ensure that the hoplites were rich enough to maintain a high level of professional training and equipment. This depended on the perioikoi for equipment and helots for food, so they could spend all their time dedicated to their military lifestyle. The Spartans was unique with two ways in their distribution of land. But this economy eventually came to a decline and a socio-economic revolution occurred in Sparta in the third century.

The Eurotes river travels through Sparta and provided some of the most fertile land in Greece. This gave Sparta many natural resources instead of them having to import them:
