The “Clothed Maja” was painted by the Spanish painter Francisco Goya around 1805. The description in the room where this painting appeared stated that the woman that appears in this painting most likely the Duchess of Alba. Many believe that this work was commissioned for the Prime Minister of Spain at the time, Goday. Goya paints her in a way that expresses the beauty and sensuality of women. Goya painted a similar portrait, the “Naked Maja”, which is also likely to be the Duchess of Alba.
