How can we explain the spatial development of high-tech parks in the UK?

During this essay I will examine the spatial development of high-tech parks within the United Kingdom. I will highlight the main reasons why many trans national companies, mainly of Japanese and East Asian origin, have chosen to locate to their premises in these newly built, ready to move into high-tech parks.

Following the decline of heavy industry in many parts of the UK the Government and the European Union devised plans, to tackle the high levels of unemployment and economic decline which followed. These plans resulted in the production of the high-tech parks, dotted all over the UK to provide a source of employment and economic re-growth in and around the areas where they were located. This explains why high-tech parks are located in areas which have faced economic decline in the recent years e.g. South Wales.
