Primary Sources:

The Treaties.

· Fundamental source of EC Law- set out the basic law of the EU.
-as such the obligations set out in the treaties must be accepted by any new Member States joining the EU. Hence, the term ‘constitutional charter’.

· The EC Treaty and Treaty on European Union set out 2 provisions
1. Structural Provisions- specify the institutions and decision making processes.
2. Substantive Provisions- Set out the goals of the EU and the policies available to pursue these goals.

· Examples of EC Treaties include: The Treaty on European Union 1992, The Treaty of Amsterdam 1998,
