Many times, the director uses sound to convey the overall importance of a scene. In the movie I chose for this assignment, Zoolander, directed by Ben Stiller, diegetic and non diegetic sound is used heavily at the end of the movie to convey the importance of the final climatic scene. In the scene I chose, the main characters are all at a fashion show for Mugatu, a very evil, but famous designer. Mugatu has brainwashed Derek Zoolander, a model, to kill the prime minister of Malaysia because he proposes a wage increase for garment workers in his country. When Zoolander is strutting his stuff down the runway and the song “Relax” starts to play, he should then be prompted to kill the prime minister who is sitting at the end of the runway.
