Introduction

The story of an Hour by Kate Chopin has a very profound meaning about the marriage institution. In this particular story, we can find that even though love is the element that keeps a couple together, however, the relation between Mr Brently Mallard and Mrs. Mallard was far to be a true love relationship. Mrs. Mallard waited all her life for something to happen, to feel free and to express herself all the irony in that relationship.

In Kate Chopin's short story "The Story of an Hour," there is much irony. The first irony discovered is in the way that Louise reacts to the news of the death of her husband, Brently Mallard. Before Louise's reaction is revealed, Chopin indirectly noticed how the widow feels by describing the world according to her perception after the dreadful news.
