Socioeconomic Factors that Impact Students with EBD

Many of the conditions that characterize poverty can be attributed to emotional and behavioral problems in students. Being poor, or part of a lower social class, does not automatically mean a student will develop EBD, however, students are often influenced by many negative factors that can lead to, or predict academic failure. The socioeconomic factors that have the most obvious negative effects on students’ cognitive and social development include a lack of nutritious food, shelter, clothing, and proper adult supervision.
