SLANG

Slang is words or phrases that express either something new or something old in a new way. Slang generally expresses new ideas or variations of old ones, most often in spoken speech. The particular words and expressions tend not to remain popular for long, and slang often changes from region to region or from one ethnic group or class to the next.Slang is the informal language that contains makeup words or common words used in a different or uncommon way.

We should be aware that there is a large volume of slang we encounter through the media such as television, film and press, which invariably increase our reference points but genuinely remain outside of personal use. Slang words have become so originated in American culture that whole dictionaries full of idiomatic words and expressions have been compiled. The Pocket Dictionary of American Slang, for example notes that slang comes from sports, popular music, the military, the criminal world, and teenagers.
