Siberian Huskies

For my report I chose to write about Siberian Huskies. I chose to write about them because they are strong, graceful, and determined sled dogs. Also because Siberian Huskies are the most commonly used sled dogs for traveling in harsh conditions and for races. They were originally developed by the Chukchi people of northeastern Siberia as an endurance sled dog. They were also used to herd reindeer. In 1909 they were brought to Alaska to compete in long-distance races, and the Alaskan dog drivers soon recognized the ability of these small, compact Siberian dogs. In the winter of 1925, when a diphtheria epidemic broke out in the isolated town of Nome, Alaska, a relay of Siberian huskies brought life-saving serum from distant Nenana. From then on, Siberian Huskies have always been the best dogs for long cold journeys.
