Shouldice

A. Assumption:
After a large wing was added to the house, Shouldice is currently providing a total capacity of 89 beds. Generally an operation would require the patients to stay at the hospital for approximately three days while some may ask to stay for an extra day. Therefore, the capacity is fully utilized if they perform an average of 148 operations per week. Since an average of 145 operations per week performance in the mid-January is considered slow season, Shouldice is assumed to achieve optimal operating level.

B. Problems Analysis:
Shouldice Shouldice is looking for ways of increasing the hospital¡¯s capacity while at the same time maintaining control over the quality service delivered.

They main product the hospital is selling is services. Therefore, there are two things to consider in order to increase the output of the hospital. First, Shouldice needs to expand its plants. Second, the Shouldice needs to it has enough human resources to keep the operating going on...
