Shadowing Americas Truth


The photograph depicting America’s way of life during the Great Depression after an Ohio flood is extremely contrast. The wall behind the line of Americans paints America as being a trouble free, worriless land where the citizens drive new cars, wear smiling faces, and have no problems. Happy and carefree, with the family dog even getting to ride along and hang its head out the window. A typical, picture perfect family. The backdrop points out that America has the, “Worlds Highest Standard of Living”, and that, “There’s no way like the American way.” I believe that this picture depicts a lie in the face of truth.
In contrast of this fairytale- like setting there is a trail of black Americans standing in a line at an emergency relief station, directly in front of the portrait. A line of Americans seeking help: homeless, hungry, or maybe even to the extent of trying to stay alive. Whatever their needs, these American...
