To many governments around the world, international tourism provides an answer to economic growth and development. As tourism begins to overtake traditional sources of employment, young women and children are encouraged to migrate to tourist areas, in hope they can earn an income for themselves and their families.

In such countries as China, Thailand, Vietnam, Burma and the Philippines, women’s bodies have become economic commodity. This global entity of trade has caused oppression in many women as their bodies have been objectified. It combines sexual oppression with class and race discrimination since it primarily involves the selling of Third World women.

The lure of this easy money has caused young girls, including children, to trade their bodies in exchange for little money, t-shirts, bikes and even air ticket out of the country. In other situations, children are trafficked into brothels and sold into sexual slavery, very rarely earning the money to escape.
