Occupation: The Sergeant of the law is the equivalent of a modern day lawyer. The Canterbury Tales hint the he is a defense attorney and deals with real estate; but they do not say it out right. This occupation in that day in age would have given him more power in the community. It also says that he is a famous and very skilled at his trade. But one may note that at the end of all the lines praising him the last line...
