Scorpion What Is Scorpion? • Many people think scorpions are disgusting, venomous creatures that are best to be avoided. However, some people like them and some even keep them as pets. Scorpions have been around for a VERY long time - about 400 million years! • Scorpions belong to the order Scorpionida (SCORPI-ON-EDA) in the class Arachnida (IRAQ-NIDA). • There are 30 species of scorpion in Arizona. They all sting, but only the bark scorpion is considered to be dangerous to people. Scorpions are most active at night, when they hunt for bugs, small reptiles and young rodents. For some reason, they glow under a black light. • Scorpions vary in size from less than 2 in. in length to 8 in. in length. Interesting Facts: 1.
