Has technology evolved to the point that it can destroy mankind? Or is mankind going to destroy may destroy them. In “There Will Come Soft Rains,” the author characterizes mankind's lack of social skills by depicting a house that can do everything a human can and ttechnology? The authors of these short stories show how mankind’s ignorance towards technology hus creating a breaking communication between humans, which is their destruction in the end. In these stories, “The Sound of Thunder,” “By the Waters of Babylon” and “There Will Come Soft Rains,” authors Ray Bradbury and Stephen Vincent Benet utilize character and setting to illustrate the themes.
