Today parents are choosing to educate their children outside of the public school systems. They are choosing schooling alternatives which they feel are better ways of educating their children. Parents are choosing Charter Schools, private schools or home schools. I believe that home schooling is a great way to educate a child. It allows them the focus more on their education and less on the distractions that are taking place in the class room. (Essence magazine august 2003pp178-191)
According t a new federal report, at least 850,000 students were learning at home in 1999, experts believe the figure is actually twice that. As recently as 1994, the government estimated the number at just 345,000. Even the largest estimates still put the home schooled at only four percent of the total k-12 population.
