Schools and Religion
Many people believe it is their constitutional right to pray when and where they feel like it. Those same people feel like the fall of society is the end result of not having prayer in school. However, some people also believe that if the government puts prayer back in school then people will be ending prayers saying, “May God, Buddha, Krishna, Cosmic Consciousness, and Allah bless you.” (Stand To Reason 2). Yet there is an American idea of a separation of church and state. The line between freedom of speech and separation of government or schools and religion becomes more and more blurred as time goes on. Three Supreme Court cases that have been influential and controversial on the subject of school prayer are Engel v. Vitale (1962), Santa Fe Independent School District v. Doe (2000), and Good News Club et. al. v. Milford Central School (2001).
