Schindler's List

"Schindler's List begins by illustrating Oskar Schindler's problem with trying to reopen an enamelware factory in Krakow, Poland. Schindler is a Czechoslovakian-born Nazi who seeks help from Itzhak Stern, an accountant and a Jew. With Stern's assistance, he convinces wealthy Jewish businessmen to contribute vast amounts of money to the factory. In return, the Jews would be able to work there and avoid being sent to the forced labor camps. To do this, Schindler has to forge documents for these Jews which say that they are skilled factory workers, machinists, and technicians. Many highly educated men and women—professors, musicians, intellectuals—had to make themselves out to be workers rather than thinkers. Otherwise, the Nazis would have no use for them except for their physical labor. But the Jews had nothing to lose.
